Employ effective traffic control

WHEN it comes to busy pedestrian crossings at peak time, Madang has the answer. Near the Holy Spirit School, an active traffic controller lets the traffic run until sufficient build-up of pedestrians before they get to cross and it is fair to all. It is a different story at Hohola in Port Moresby in the morning. Traffic is backed up for some distance, waiting for the flow of pedestrians to cease. What a difference it would make if only one person a policeman or woman, traffic controller or volunteer – were able to give both pedestrians a fair go.
