Employ expatriates, hard to trust nationals

Letters

I THINK Papua New Guinea is not progressing in the direction it should.
There were no security companies during the time I went to school in the 1980s.
When I went to the University of PNG, there were no fences around the campus.
The teaching staff were nearly all expatriates with high qualifications.
Corruption was not a major problem back then.
The Ombudsman Commission was very active in executing its duties and the UPNG students carried out peaceful demonstrations and succeeded in influencing the change in government.
Judge for yourselves and see if similar things are happening today. Corruption, wantok system and bribery are gradually weakening most systems and government institutions that were established with very good intentions by the founding fathers of this nation.
These are no longer working well and right.
I am appealing to those in authority to recruit expatriates to occupy the top positions as Papua New Guineans cannot be trusted anymore.
There may be a few good Papua New Guineans but if they are continuously exposed to the weak-minded and the corrupt, they would soon be taught the tricks of the game and it’s all over.
