Empower informal sector

Letters

THE Covid-19 scare has moved normal to a new level.
Papua New Guinea and the world is changing.
The Government must promote the informal sector into economies of scale.
The PNG Social Sector estimates the informal sector to be worth K12 billion.
The micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME) sector is already advancing into the digital age.
Informal sector must be promoted, empowered and technically enhanced onto the same MSME digital space.
This state of emergency (SOE) lockdown has really changed our people more ways than one.
Simply put the new norm is everyone in PNG will have to earn a second income to sustain current livelihoods.
Covid-19 mania has changed the attitudes of people positively.
The SOE, I believe, was to make way for PNG to take the next step forward.
That next step is to ensure the informal sector in incorporated into the MSME digital platform.
This is the digital era. It’s now or never.
Let’s do some research and localise a model that is PNG made.
It’s nothing new we are doing.
It’s all in the Government’s development plans and we just have to create the legally enabling environment that is conducive.
