THE 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, will be broadcast exclusively by Media Niugini’s EMTV television station in PNG.

The TV station said in a press statement yesterday: “The nation of Papua New Guinea will once again have the chance to cheer on their favourite home-grown athletes, with the country’s most-watched free-to-air broadcaster, EMTV, to exclusively broadcast the 2016 Rio Olympic Games this August.”

EMTV, now a 100 per cent PNG-owned company, successfully covered and broadcast the 2015 Pacific Games, setting world-class standards in the broadcasting of a major sporting event in PNG.

“Millions of viewers throughout the nation will be able to watch all the action from Rio free-to-air, from start to finish.”

The company said the coverage would feature exclusive content and unparalleled live coverage at no cost.

“The deal remains part of EMTV’s commitment to bringing you the most popular international sporting events to your TV screen.”

EMTV announced that in 12 months time, it would transition to digital high definition broadcasting, giving viewers an even greater range of entertaining content.
