Enage: Kokoda board wants me to stay on

Kokoda Track Authority chief executive James Enage says the board has decided not to accept his resignation until a review of the authority is completed.
Enage said he had followed due process in tendering his resignation but the board advised him to continue until the current review by the government was completed.
“I made the announcement in the media and tendered my resignation,” Enage said.
“But the board has yet to accept my resignation in writing and advised me to continue until the review of KTA is completed,” he said.
Enage gave his resignation letter early this year for what he said was a conflict of interest in his position as the CEO of KTA and chairman of the Kokoda Track Landowners’ Taskforce which mobilised and organised landowners to shut down the track over local benefits.
A source that did not want to be identified told The National yesterday that Enage’s resignation was accepted by KTA board but he was not leaving the office.
“He maintained that the board that met and approved his resignation did not have the quorum required,” the source said.
“That’s why KTA is currently in limbo because of Enage’s conduct and the responsible authorities like the secretary for the Department of Provincial and local level government, which is responsible for special purpose authorities must intervene and address this issue.”
Attempts yesterday to get comments from the department were unsuccessful.
