A TORRID encounter is expected among the four districts in East New Britain when they battle it out in the sports arena this week in the provincial games.
Young sportsmen and women will be out to showcase their talents to secure a place in the ENB provincial team for the PNG Grassroots Games in November next year.
The games begin today and end on Friday. It will be hosted by the Rabaul district.
Selectors from the districts have already selected their teams to take part in the weeklong event.
The 12 sports that will be contested are rugby league sevens, union, softball, soccer, basketball, athletics, volleyball, boxing and taekwondo.
Team Kokopo has been working hard since the conclusion of the district games a fortnight ago.
Team Kokopo chairman Sebastian Babate said he was confident his team would take out the major honours this year, after they finished second last year.
He thanked the major sponsor of the team, KokopoMP Patrick Tammur who allocated K50,000 towards the district games.
He added another K40,000 would help bring the team to Rabaul.
Babate has also called on business houses in Kokopo to help support the team which consists mostly of young men and women from the villages in the districts.
Babate said apart from trying to win the provincial title this year, Team Kokopo aimed to get as many players as possible into the provincial side.
