ENB launches health projects
The National, Friday 20th April 2012
EAST New Britain province has launched the roll-out of four major impact public health programmes.
Deputy governor Boniface Setavo launched the special immunisation activity (SIA), TB DOTs, new malaria treatment protocol and community action and participation, and healthy island programmes on Wednesday.
It was launched during the provincial administration’s Gavman Tokbek programme on NBC Radio East New Britain.
The programmes are jointly funded by the national department of health, global fund and provincial government and will be coordinated by the provincial health division at all health facilities.
The SIA programme runs from April 2 to May 15.
The major challenge for the health workforce is to reach all identified age groups.
In the provincial government’s effort to address issues of social mobilisation and community ownership of the health programmes, the CAP and healthy island concept has been scheduled for roll-out in the next five years, beginning this year.
“The programme aims to empower and motivate the community action to achieve good health in body, mind and soul,” Setavo said.
