AN East New Britain man has been charged with fraud involving a total of 587 cartons of goods worth more than K43,000 shipped from Lae, Morobe province, last month.
East New Britain provincial police commander Supt Anton
Billie said the suspect, Willie Tiri, was residing at Raniolo in Kokopo, East New Britain province.
Tiri was charged for three counts for forgery, uttering an unauthorised document and fraud.
Supt Billie said the suspect somehow came to know of the shipment of 587 cartons of
Maggi-brand noodles from the Nestle company in Lae, Morobe province, to the Spirit of Kokopo company in East New Britain.
Upon arrival of the shipment, the suspect wrote to the manager of Spirit of Kokopo
claiming he was authorised by the Nestle
supply chain manager
in Lae to pick up the goods.
When the goods were released, the suspect sold it and spent the money on personal items instead of depositing it into Nestle’s bank account.
Supt Billie said the fraud was detected the auditors checked through their supply shipment in Lae and alerted police.
Tiri was arrested by the police fraud squad and was later released on a K500 bail.
