POLICE in East New Britain have generated more than K130,000 in revenue from police operations as annual contribution to the national purse.
The K135,000 collected from January to December this year was mainly from fees for firearm licences, character checks, traffic infringement notices, crime and traffic accident reports.
East New Britain police commander Sylvester Kalaut said although the police force was a service-oriented organisation, it was doing its bit to contribute to the State.
He said the money would be paid to the Finance Department through the Consolidated Revenue fund.
He said with regards to firearm licences fees, those who did not renew their licences on time were penalised with fines.
Kalaut said many vehicle owners in the province had been served traffic notices as a result of defect ive vehicles.
Meanwhile, a man was murdered last Friday at the Takubar Beach Resort.
Kalaut said the deceased, identified as Raphael Rave Baulai, was hit on the head with a hard object after a fight during a dance at the resort.
He said otherwise the province had remained peaceful during the long weekend.
Police in West New Britain have reported a quiet Christmas long weekend, with no major crime.
Provincial police commander Samson Siguyaru commended the community for cooperating with police in maintaining peace over the weekend.
