EAST New Britain is gearing up to host the PNG-Indonesia border liaison committee and the PNG-Australia Business Council meeting next year.
Governor Leo Dion in highlighting these two events urged all citizens in the province to take pride in themselves and uphold set standards in promoting good governance and to portray a positive image of the province.
Dion said ENB was very unique, with its diverse cultural values and a colourful history combined with the natural hospitality of the people that has been an attraction for other provinces and overseas.
He said the ENB government and other stakeholders, like the business community, the churches and NGOs in the province,  could only do so much.
The onus, he said, was on the people to offer their best.
Dion said this when acknowledging the contributions of past leaders of the province who had worked tirelessly in plotting the province’s future.
“It had taken years of hard work by the people to bring the province to where it is,” he said.
He further called on other elected leaders in the province to show good leadership, be transparent and accountable in carrying out their roles and responsibilities for the good of the province.
