THE electoral roll update in East New Britain province will be completed soon, provincial Electoral Commission manager Terence Hetinu said.
Hetinu said yesterday phase two of the electoral roll update, roll improvement and display of roll would soon be completed as they were waiting to collect enrolment forms from Pomio district.
He said they had collected rolls from the Kokopo, Gazelle and Rabaul districts.
Hetinu said they were now doing quality checks.
He said it was important that all data was checked before it reached Port Moresby.
“It is hard work trying to conduct quality checks on all rolls that have been submitted but it will save time,” he said.
“It will be more difficult and time consuming for us to correct errors therefore it is vital that my staff do a quality check before we send all data to Port Moresby.”
Hetinu said the Sinivit local level government had completed its roll update but other LLGs in Pomio district were expected to submit their roll updates at the end of the week.
He said many people in the rural areas of the province were still unfamiliar with the limited preferential voting (LPV) system.
“People have forgotten how to use LPV and probably one of the reasons is lack of basic awareness on LPV,” he said.
Hetinu appealed to the people to support and cooperate with Electoral Commission awareness activities in the province.
“We are putting more effort into LPV awareness in the province,” he said.
Hetinu expects election in East New Britain to be peaceful.
