ENB school buys desks, chairs

THEY regard themselves as Sepiks of Vunapalading No.3 in Gazelle district, East New Britain province.
Their parents and/or grandparents had left their Wosera home, in East Sepik, years ago to come work the plantations and other trades in this New Guinea Islands province, which the children now call home.
Getting an education had always been a priority for children in Vunapalading No.3.
Last month, the board of Hetwara Elementary School, comprising especially Sepiks and Morobeans, took delivery of desks, chairs and other items for their children to use.
The items, including iron roofing and building materials, were bought from funds secured by the board through the district education office.
Hetwara Elementary is one of three feeder elementary schools for Vunapalading Primary School, among others.
The other elementary schools in Vunapalading No.3 are Manapki and Watom.
Hetwara Elementary School board chairman Alois Nakra, his board members and parents travelled into Kokopo, bought the desks and chairs and had these items transported back to the school.
While the delivery was a significant morale booster for children attending Hetwara Elementary, Manapki and Watom Elementary children, doing elementary prep, elementary one and elementary two, will continue to sit on hard concrete floors to get an education.
