EDUCATION institutions in East New Britain will share K500,000 from the rehabilitation of education sector infrastructure funding this year.

A statement from the office of the regional member for East New Britain and deputy Prime Minister Leo Dion said 29 schools in the four districts would benefit from the funding.

The money will go towards the maintenance of existing infrastructure and the building of new ones in elementary schools, primary schools, high schools, secondary schools and vocational training centres.

Schools in the Gazelle area have already received their allocation.

Kalamanagunan Primary School headmaster Mark Petelo said the K20,000 financial assistance was a pleasant surprise for the school.

He said the school planned to build important infrastructure including ablution and toilet blocks to replace pit toilets which had been there since the school began in 1954.

Manager of the Karlai Vocational Centre in Pomio district Nicholas Nangas was lost for words when he learnt that his school would receive K10,000.

He said the school needed to carry out maintenance to school buildings which had been allowed to deteriorate in the past 28 years.
