THE East New Britain men’s and women’s hockey teams are confident of a strong campaign at the national championships which start tomorrow at the Sir John Guise Stadium in Port Moresby.
According to men’s coach Stallone Tanou, ENB have never won the championships since the tournament’s inception in the 1990s.
“We always finish in the finals in every tournament,” Tanou said yesterday.
“Last year, we won bronze in men’s and women’s divisions but now we are looking to go at least a step further.
“We are aiming to win the championships by putting in a big effort in all our matches.”
The side will have the experience of national representative Jessy Dusty.
He said their women’s team also had couple of former national representatives who would come out firing.
Tanou said despite not being able to secure a sponsor, they were able raise funds.
The tournament will feature teams from East and West New Britain, and the National Capital District.
