ENB wants ban on international vessels

THE East New Britain government wants a temporary ban on international vessels visiting the port in Rabaul.
Governor Nakikus Konga said it was in support of the Health Department’s commitment to prevent the coronavirus (Codiv-19) from reaching the country.
He said this should include logging ships, cruise liners and fishing vessels.
In a letter to Health and HIV/Aids Minister Jelta Wong, the Gazelle MP, Konga said the province supported the move to “embrace the effective surveillance” of those who might be infected at the two entry points – the Rabaul port and Tokua Airport.
The letter was also copied to Pomio MP Elias Kapavore, Kokopo MP Emil Tammur and Rabaul MP Dr Allan Marat.
Konga said he had followed the actions taken by developed nations to ban international travellers “which indicated the seriousness of the virus”.
He said authorities would continue to strengthen effective and strict surveillance to vessels.
