A YOUTH group in Kokopo, East New Britain, donated blood to Vunapope hospital last week as an “act of kindness”.

The youth group was from the Allan Tegete Seventh-Day Adventist memorial church at Butuwin in Kokopo.

Lower Lights youth leader Norman Manda said members of the youth group donated blood to the hospital last Saturday to mark World Youth Day.

He said the theme of the World Youth Day this year was ‘act of kindness’.

“We chose to best reflect our act of kindness by donating blood to those who need it the most,” he said.

Manda said about 30 members of the group donated their blood, including other church members.

He said they specifically invited the Vunapope hospital team to collect their blood as the hospital was frequently visited by patients.

Manda said last year their World Youth Day theme was ‘evangelism’, which they marked by conducting outreach at the Kokopo market.

The hospital team of four staff started collecting blood at 1pm with Darius Micah, 37 from Manus and Trent Gawi, 26 from East Sepik being the two first donators at the church and concluded at 3pm.

Those who donated their blood were issued with medical certificates.

Manda said the World Youth Day started a week of praise and joy for the youths at Allan Tegete SDA church which ended on Sunday.
