THE East New Britain Development Corp yesterday started paying rebates to copra farmer-traders in the province.

The rebate funding is covered by a K250,000 cheque.

ENBDC director David Piamia, on behalf of chairman William Lamur, said the second rebate payment came through the sales of copra.

He said the provincial government has been very supportive of ENBDC being its business arm, and which also gave ENBDC a grant of K150,000 last year.

Piamia said the second rebate payment would go a long way in helping growers and farmers in the province.

The subsidiaries of ENBDCD included ENB Port Services, Andersons Foodland, Kada Lama, Kada Kopi and Kada Simen.

Provincial administrator Aquila Tubal, who presented the K250,000 cheque, affirmed the provincial government’s support to the company, farmers and people of the province.

He thanked Kada Lama for taking on the competition and challenges in making the province’s “green gold” reap benefits.

Tubal said the clear message behind the rebate payouts was for growers to continue producing.

He also called on other growers outside and around Gazelle Peninsula to sell their copra, cocoa and coffee to ENBDC subsidiaries.

Tubal urged the company to continue pushing for growth because “there was still a big room for improvement”.
