Encouragement for people with disabilities
PEOPLE with Disability (PWD) in Lae have been urged to help end poverty.
Morobe Special Education Resource Centre coordinator George Lalaoia challenged them during National Disability Day commemoration last Thursday in Lae to stop depending on others too much.
He said most PWDs were living below the poverty line, and it was up to each one of them to end poverty.
Lalaoia said they had to take accept individually to change.
He said the mentality of PWD looking at themselves as nobody and begging around should stop.
“We have to change from the charity-based model to the social inclusion model, where PWDs can be included and get involved in the society,” he said.
“In that way they will not live in poverty, so the development goal will be sustainably achieved by 2030,” Lalaoia said.
He said the community would keep giving in to disability people when they were asking unless they were included to try to do something for themselves.
