WHY are so many brilliant students missing out on education every year?
The simple answer is school fee problem.
Enga Governor Peter Ipatas identified this problem and when he was voted into office in 1997, he initiated and implemented the school fee subsidy policy for the children of Enga.
Through this, thousands of Enga students have benefited.
His latest initiative is the Ipatas Foundation Inc which was launched early this year.
It was established and funded by the Enga provincial government which will benefit not only students but also assist in other areas such as empowering women through loan assistance, intellectual development and spiritual development.
Ipatas and foundation chairman Isaac Lupari visited Divine Word University recently.
They encouraged all Enga students to apply for school fee loans from the foundation.
Students will then have to repay the interest-free loan when they start working.
This will benefit many poor parents.
