A CANDIDATE in Wapenamanda, Enga, has been declared unopposed after nominations closed last Friday for the local level government elections.

Wapenamanda LLG ward 14 councillor Kiap Yasima retained his seat when no other candidates were nominated to challenge him.

Assistant returning officer Simeon Waesa declared him unopposed at the close of nomination at 4.06pm.

Yasima held the seat for the past three terms and signed the writs last Friday to serve his fourth consecutive term.

He comes from Yakaendis village in Wapenamanda and is a highly respected leader and businessman.

A senior teacher at Wapenamanda Primary School, Allan Pindao, hailed Yasima’s achievements and contributions to development in the district and to his people’s welfare.

Pindao said the people had felt the impact of his services and decided not to challenge him in this election.

He said out of the 36 council wards in Wapenamanda, Yasima created history by being declared unopposed.

In signing his writ, Yasima thanked his people for their respect and recognition of his services and contributions by not challenging his seat.

He promised to continue serving them in the new term to work closely with their new LLG councils, provincial government and MPs to deliver services to the people.
