THE patron of the St Paul’s (Pausa) Lutheran High School in Wapenamanda, Enga, is calling on the provincial education board to appoint officers and assign teachers on merit.
Nick Andake, who is the local level government president and chief landowner of Pausa, refuted the claims by school principal Gary Mark that the school did not face a shortage of dormitories and classrooms.
Andake said Mark could not deny the fact that due to inadequate dormitories and classrooms, most Grade 9 and 10 students had been sent home.
He said school administrations and boards of management “need to get the situation in black and white for the responsible authorities to discuss and improve the situation”.
“I am not saying that the government has not provided anything.
“The government has contributed its share and we, as former students and elites from Enga, need to be mindful and contribute one way or the other to improve the standard of the institution up to secondary status for the education of our future generation and start by improving its rundown infrastructure,” Andake said.
“The school was a gift from America through the Gutnius Lutheran church of Enga.
“It was the founding knowledge institute and an icon of Enga that needs recognition.
“If our children are sent home because of the rundown infrastructure, who do we turn to or blame for this?
“We all need to come together to rebuild this institution.
“I am not playing politics here as claimed by Mark. Never attach my concern over school children’s situation with your political interest.
“I’m concerned about the education of our future elites to move Enga forward.”
