THE Enga government is sponsoring the top science students in grade 10 as they progress to grade 11 and 12.
The provincial government is paying for their fees to study at the Imapiyaka Lutheran International School in Wapenamanda.
Last Wednesday, Governor Sir Peter Ipatas paid K520,176 for the 16 students picked to school principal Travina Gima.
He said the province needed scientists because they already had accountants and lawyers.
Sir Peter said it was why the scholarship programme was introduced. He said Imapiyaka was chosen but there were other schools students could attend.
“My focus is to see what I can do for my province which has highest number of educated elites in the country,” he said.
“I will continue to support them and next year, I’m expecting to see the number increasing.”
Sir Peter said his vision was to make sure no one in Enga missed out on basic education.
“This is the way forwards my people because Enga will become an education hub,” he said.
Sir Peter said the programme was to lift the standard of education to boost the morale of students and set high goals for themselves.
