Enga health staff cry foul over selections

STAFF of the Enga Provincial Health Authority are calling on authorities to review the selections made through a new restructure.
More than 60 staff who claim to have been displaced or demoted are questioning the selection process.
Their spokesmen Paul Patrin from Wabag district, Peter Kalak from Wapenamanda district, Nanes Wapula, from Kompiam-Ambum, and Rocket Amean, from Kandep, said the selection process was biased.
Kalak said many were unattached while some were demoted and even sent to health facilities they did not apply for.
“We were surprised to receive letters informing us that our applications did not succeed,” he said.
“We have been serving the province for years and now we are given this treatment.”
Patrin said the selection committee did not follow the right procedure.
He urged the committee to revisit the process they used.
But authority chief executive Aaron Luai said the selection was done following the normal public service process.
“This is not political where we appoint our supporters,” he said.
“We screened all qualifications and performances because Enga is serious in delivering quality health services to the people.”
He said many senior positions were occupied by community health workers or nursing officers who had been identified.
