TEAM Enga have been confirmed as non-participants in the 5th PNG Games in Kokopo.
With the start of the competition yesterday, no word had been received from Team Enga about their participation.
Governor Peter Ipatas had stated earlier that he would meet with the team officials in Wabag where he expected a full explanation on why he should fund the team’s expenses.
Ipatas said he was aware that no proper preparation had been made by Team Enga and saw no reason why he should spend the people’s money on a team that was not committed to perform and win medals at the Games.
PNG Games organisers were reserved in their response to the team’s situation.
“There is a small window of hope that they can still make it, but it’s closing fast as competition has started,” Games spokesman Wesley Bunpalau said.
“We have not had any correspondence with them at all, no one has responded to our queries, and they have not registered for any of the events.”
Team West Sepik is another mystery.
There has been no word about their possible late arrival after the opening ceremony on Monday.
