AN academic is appealing to former students, parents and the Wapenamanda community in Port Moresby to help
the St Paul’s Lutheran Secondary School in Enga.
The head of the journalism strand at the University of Papua New Guinea, Kaleamen Indistange, said communities should learn to help schools and learning
institutions in the country.
He was saddened to learn that more than 200 students from the Puasa St Paul’s Lutheran Secondary School were sent home because of the shortage of classrooms and dormitories.
Indistange called on former students, parents and citizens from Wapenamanda to get together on Saturday at the university forum area to discuss how they could help the school.
He said the government’s free education policy was good but
was also putting pressure on schools as student numbers had increased.
He said schools were experiencing an influx of students and were unable to cater for the increased student population.
Indistange said the 200 students sent home was the result of the increase and communities should step in to help schools.
“The Wapenamanda community, the parents and the former students are called to meet on Saturday at 10am at
the UPNG forum area
to discuss how we can help the school,” he said.
