THE 2018 Enga Cultural Show attracted more than 30 tourists and 50 traditional cultural singsing groups when it was opened on Saturday by Australian High Commissioner Bruce Davis.
Enga Governor Sir Peter Ipatas had directed that only singsing groups from Enga would perform to promote tourism in the province.
The only two outside singsing groups participating were from Hela and Baiyer, in Western Highlands, who shared borders with Enga.
Davis told the people that culture and tradition were the pride of the people of Enga who must pass them on to their future generations.
He said Enga had a “unique” culture.
“This is unique and you have to maintain your culture and tradition as it will make you proud,” Davis said.
Sir Peter said culture in Enga should attract more tourists into the province.
“This year’s show is seeing only singsing groups from Enga because we want to make a demonstration of it so that next year and beyond will be biggest and better,” he said.
He said culture would lead to something good for the people.
