Engineers start work on Hayfield Airport
The National, Friday March 28th, 2014
ENGINEERS have started work on Hayfield Airport in Maprik, East Sepik, managing director John Hollies says.
Hollies said the engineers from Central started work two weeks ago.
“We will be assisting the National Airports Corporation engineers with the designing of the airport development,” he said. The five MPs in East Sepik have each contributed K1 million from their District Services Improvement Programme funds for the development of the airport.
The Government will contribute K6m. After the completion of the engineering scope of work, they will submit a report to the NAC.
“We will be working with the NAC in realigning the airport within the boundaries and creating the centre line,” Hollies said.
The engineering team will work on other projects in the district, including the Corrections Institute at Roma, police barracks, re-development of Maprik Hospital and the town boundaries. The announcement of the K6 million project was made by Prime Minister Peter O’Neill during his visit to Maprik recently. He officiated in the groundbreaking ceremony.
The construction stage of the airport development is expected to start in May.
