THE Institute of Engineers PNG Port Moresby branch held its annual general meeting last week with the major agenda being how members could use their expertise to help the community.
Other agenda items included election of new executives, endorsing a branch guideline and informing members of branch plans for the year.
IEPNG chief executive Benedict Mick told members they had an obligation to better their communities.
He encouraged members to work with executives to further the Port Moresby branch goals for the year.
Mick said IEPNG would be fully rolling out the competency-based assessment in 2018.
“This is the year that we earmarked for the change in how we assess ourselves as engineers, to a new system that will allow us to a recognised international level,” he said
“This is the competency-based assessment system we have been developing it for the past few years.
“People get worried or are very skeptical of this, especially senior engineers who feel that there is no need for this.”
