Ensure people wear masks

Letters

I WITHDRAW my discontentment about the National Pandemic Response Controller David Manning’s inability of engaging law enforcing officers Port Moresby’s bus stops to ensure people are wearing masks.
Every morning, when I get on the bus to go to work with my mask on, most passengers do not have their masks on.
I also notice that PMV crews are not worried about passengers wearing masks.
They are only interested in collecting fares.
This is what’s happening in all PMV buses in the city.
Even though there is evidence of community transmission, people are still moving around without care.
How can the Government intervene to prevent the spread of the Covid-19?
The Government should pay extra allowances for police and Correctional Services officers to monitor all bus stops to ensure people comply with the Covid-19 measures.
People will fear the officers and start wearing masks.
In Papua New Guinea, we are known for having attitude problems so people will not use their head to do things unless law enforcers tell them to do so.
If nothing is done and people continue travelling on buses without masks, by the end of the year, more than half of the city’s population would be infected with the virus.
A lockdown is not a good option.
