Environment worker needs treatment abroad
The National, Friday 20th April 2012
A 38-YEAR-old public servant is seeking financial assistance to undergo further medical checks and treatment overseas.
Jim Onga, an employee with the Department of Environment and Conservation, had recently suffered a heart attack. He was diagnosed with coronary artery disease at the Mt Hagen General Hospital and referred to the Port Moresby Heart Institute.
Onga is from Keremunga village in the Dei Council area, Western Highlands province.
“Further checks confirmed the disease and Onga needs to undergo what is known as the angiogram treatment.
“Unfortunately, this treatment is not available in Papua New Guinea,” a family spokesman said yesterday.
“His doctor has advised that he needs to go for further coronary angiogram in Singapore.”
Onga needs about K75,000 to travel to Singapore for treatment.
His Keremunga and Dei Council relatives had started fundraising activities to send Onga to Singapore.
“We are now appealing to his friends, Western Highlanders and kind-hearted members of the public to come forward and help us in cash and kind.”
A fundraising dinner to assist Onga would be held on May 26 at the Vision City’s Dynasty Restaurant along Waigani Drive. Tickets are selling for K200 per person or K2,000 for a table of 10 people.
