The survey and lands branch of the Department of Works has been boosted to meet international standards following the purchase of the latest state of the art equipment and completion of three technical manuals at a cost of K200,000.

That was confirmed by officers from the department at the recent 48th Survey congress which they attended.

According to the survey and land branch consultant Michael Sirabis, the branch had acquired the relevant modern equipment having used out-dated survey equipment for a long time.

He said the equipment would be used to guide the Department of Works field surveyors in the execution of surveys for road design and construction.

Department of Works and Implementation is a technical arm of the government responsible for all land transport infrastructure including roads and bridges design and construction.

Three Manuals – the Surveyors Manual of Surveying Procedures, the Standard Survey instruction (SSI) and the Survey and Lands branch Procedural Manual were reviewed and written in two years.
