Erave councilors still not paid

Letters

ALL Local Level Government ward councilors across the country received their overdue allowances in time for their families to have a good Christmas.
However, the ward councilors of Erave RLLG in Kagua-Erave, Southern Highlands, missed out because the Electoral Commission failed the elections in 2012.
The Erave RLLG has 28 wards and all were failed, allowing the incumbents to remain in office to this day. The 28 ward councilors will now be going to the polls to defend their respective positions in the upcoming LLG elections.
The LLG ward councilors are noble leaders and well respected in their communities. Unlike, their counterparts in the towns and cities, they also provide informal judicial services at the grassroots level, not for the love of money, fame and glory but because they want to serve their people with loyalty, passion and compassion.
I appeal to Prime Minister Peter O’Neill to consider paying the 28 LLG ward councilors.
The DPLLGA is aware that the Erave LLG ward councilors missed out on the 2018 Christmas gift given to all LLG ward councilors from the prime minister. They should be recognised and paid before they go into new elections next month.
