MILNE Bay police have shot and wounded an escapee from Giligili prison in Alotau after being on the run for almost four years.

Benjamin John Enroy, 26, from West Sepik and Waema village in Alotau was arrested for committing arm robbery and murder in 2003.

He was charged in 2007 and sentenced to 45 years imprisonment.

However, he managed to escape on July 16, 2007, after serving a few months in prison.

According to Milne Bay provincial police commander Lincoln Gerari, Benjamin was considered as “very dangerous”.

Benjamin was said to have terrorised communities in the area for almost four years.

Gerari said he was involved in most hold-up of public motor vehicles (PMVs) in Alotau and sea piracy activities until police caught up with him last Wednesday.

“He (Benjamin) is currently admitted at the Alotau General Hospital for treatment of his wounds .

“And when he recovers he will be automatically taken to Giligili to serve his time,” he added.

Four of Benjamin’s accomplices have also been arrested and are in police custody awaiting interrogation, Gerari said.
