ESP  commits K160,000 for Dagua high school

INFRASTRUCTURE de­velopment at the new John Bosco High School at Dagua, in East Sepik, remains the school’s priority.
That has been boosted with the provincial division of education already pledging its support by committing K160,000 towards that cause.
Provincial education adviser Joseph Auli announced the commitment during the swearing-in of the school’s governing council at the Sea View Hotel in Wewak, East Sepik, last week.
Auli said the money would go towards building two dormitories for students.
The day high school started enrolling Grade 9 students in 2009 despite many objections from people in the area and province.
The move proved a success when last year it graduated more than 100 students, most of whom have secured Grade 11 placing at secondary schools in Wewak.
Parents and Citizens Association chairman Mike Primus thanked Auli for the commitment, saying it would help them improve the learning environment for students.
Primus, who is a member of the governing council, said while work on the dormitories for students may be considered later, their immediate need was an administration building to replace the existing classroom that they had converted into an office.
He said the building would house the headmaster’s office, staff room and respective offices for subject masters.
Primus said their immediate need “is to make sure that the school’s facilities are in place before the school achieved its boarding status”.
Dagua Primary School chairman Mark Mona admitted the high school was using primary school facilities and that it needed its own specialist classrooms and library.
Mona and Primus welcomed Auli to discuss development issues so they work together to set standard for the new high school.
