ESP govt gives vehicle to lands
The National, Thursday 07th March, 2013
THE East Sepik lands division received a new Toyota 10-seater Landcruiser from the provincial administration last week.
Provincial lands chairman Francis Hevu presented the keys o the vehicle to lands adviser Dau Waskiau in the presence of provincial administrator Samson Torovi outside the lands office in Wewak on Friday afternoon.
Torovi apologised for the neglect of the division by successive provincial administrations.
He said he would be giving one more vehicle in the coming weeks to ensure that officers could move around to do their jobs.
“Land function overrides all other functions but let me apologise for the neglect by the provincial administrations over the years,” Torovi said.
“The huge development budget all provinces will be getting, starting this year will be spent on the land so we must resurrect the land function, which is surely long overdue.
“Today’s gesture shows that the provincial administration is concerned at the lands division because of its significance in development,” Torovi told lands officers.
Hevu thanked the provincial administration for realising the plight of his division.
“I would like to appeal to my officers to take care of these vehicles because I personally protested during assembly meetings for this assistance which often do not come easy. If we take care of this fleet and have a clean record, we will be helped next time,” Hevu said.
Waskau said the vehicles would help greatly in customary land and ILG land registrations.
