POLICE in East Sepik are investigating the deaths of six people that occurred recently in Yangoru-Saussia.
East Sepik police commander Supt Albert Beli said a man from Kiarufu, who was alledgedly drinking with friends at Kwarabri over the weekend, was hacked to death yesterday morning.
Supt Beli said police had been deployed to Kwarabri village and, with the assistance of villagers, two suspects were arrested while seven suspects were still on the run.
He said the deceased was identified as one of Steven Morilomo’s sons from Kiarufu village.
Meanwhile, Supt Beli said police were also investigating the death of four people at Wingei last week.
He said 10 suspects had been identified by villagers and criminal investigation division officers were in Wingei investigating the killings.
Those killed included a father and his four-year-old son as well as the driver of a vehicle and his passenger.
Supt Beli said post-mortems on the four would be done on Wednesday and that information would assist police with their investigations.
He said he had received reports from Woginara in Wewak that another man was killed over the weekend and police had been deployed to the area to investigate.
Supt Beli cautioned people not to drink alcohol excessively as the chances of violence was higher when people were drunk.
