ESP school delays classes over water woes

A SCHOOL in East Sepik is yet to start classes because it is facing a water problem.
Mongniol Primary School head teacher Clement Walama said they needed to sort out the water issue before students could begin classes.
The school has received its Tuition Fee Free (TFF) allocation and will pay its water bill of K3200.
“The water bill was not sorted last year because the school had no funds as the final quarter TFF was not received. It affected classes in the final term,” Walama said.
The school received more than K40,000 in government subsidy this year, including the outstanding 2018 fourth quarter allocation.
Walama said the school was collecting parent support fee of K250 to assist the school’s operation.
“As a level-eight school, we have a lot of matters to put in place so our school operation could progress well,” he said.
Walama also said they were not implementing the Standard-Based Education curriculum because there was not enough teaching and learning materials.
“We have about nine books and 38 teachers. We don’t know how to share those nine books among our teachers.”
