CHILDREN attending education institutions in East Sepik will have to pay 25% of school fees before they commence classes.
Provincial education board advisor Joseph Auli said this had been agreed to by the provincial education board.
The first component of the school fee subsidy from the government of 60% may reach the schools late.
The 25% payment is to cater for costs schools must meet to get the academic year started.
Auli said parents needed to understand that the government was only providing for free tuition fee. But schools may charge parents additional fees on projects to be implemented during the school year in line with the school learning improvement plan.
The government is likely to start paying schools tuition fees from Tuesday.
Once that money is received, the parents will be refunded whatever they had paid as regards the 25% surcharge.
