East Sepik police commander Superintendent Peter Philips, was allegedly attacked during his exercise on Sunday morning by some youths in Wewak , border divisional commander Donald Yamasombi said yesterday.
“These youths threw stones and other objects at him at Kreer Heights and he sustained some minor injuries to his leg,” Yamasombi said.
He said three suspects were detained by police and more were expected to be arrested.
“These suspects have no respect for people and I condemn such behavior. If they can attack the provincial police commander, then they can attack any one,” he said
Yamasombi said that Philips was doing his routine morning walk when he came across some drunkards.
“They make cheeky remarks but Philips ignored them. That’s when they threw stones at him, hitting his leg. One of them attempted to attack him with a bush knife but ended up cutting his leg on broken bottles that they had thrown at Philips.”
