Ethics, core values are key: Sansan

CIVIL servants have been urged to be at the forefront of service delivery at the national, provincial and district levels.
Taies Sansan, the acting Department of Personnel Management Secretary, told a group attending a course on ethical leadership
in decision-making, that they might be from different backgrounds but shared a common goal “of making a difference for our country”.
The course, supported by the PNG-Australia Partnership through the Pacific Leadership and Governance Precinct, focused on the six core public sector values: honesty, integrity, accountability, respect, wisdom and responsibility.
“To shape the future of our nation we need leaders in the public service that are ethical, capable and values-based,” Sansan said.
“Through the precinct, we are reaching out to public servants to give them the tools to be more efficient and effective in their work.”
The group was made up of public servants Gulf, Milne Bay, Northern and Western.
Blanche Bino, who works for the Oro provincial administration, said public servants could be values-based leaders.
“I’m a leader in my own right to contribute within my own organisation,” she said.
“Ethics and the core values are very important because they uphold transparency, fairness and justice.
“If we truly uphold those core values, it makes organisations more effective and efficient.
“To be effective in leadership we all should uphold the six core values of the public service.”
The precinct is a partnership between Papua New Guinea and Australia which supports the development of ethical, capable public sector leaders.
