EU: Education investments key to development
The National, Thursday May 1st, 2014
INVESTMENT in education leads to sustainable development, European Union (EU) commissioner for development Andris Piebalgs said.
He reiterated Prime Minister Peter O’Neill’s comments on tuition fee free basic education for all being the key to Papua New Guinea’s future.
“No country has made progress towards sustainable development without deliberately investing in education. Knowledge, skills and values are all indispensable building blocks for a vibrant and thriving society,” he said.
“Here in Papua New Guinea you clearly believe that comprehensive quality education is crucial to human development, to poverty eradication, to your country’s productive capacity and to progress in society as a whole.”
Piebalgs was speaking at the signing ceremony of two financing agreements between the EU and the Government in Port Moresby, yesterday.
