THE European Union has funded water and sanitation projects for communities in East Sepik.
It has been done in partnership with Water Aid and HELP Resources through the Rural Water Sanitation Supply Programme.
Sinamblai village on Tuesday witnessed the launching of two of its water schemes – a gravity – fed water system and two rain water catchments (5000L each) for people living uphill.
A female hygiene unit has also been built for women to use when going through their menstrual cycles.
Water Aid Australia programme manager Jay Maheswaran said bringing water into the village was one thing, maintaining it was another.
He encouraged people to promote better hygiene and sanitation and thanked the community for their
commitment and contribution towards achieving
this vital service in the village.
Turubu LLG president David Kausik thanked  Water Aid and partners for the projects in three villages.
He said different water schemes had been set up at Musangun, Sinamblai 2 and Kamasau where people could access clean and safe water to use.
It is also a long- term relief for the people.
