EU supports technical school in Goroka with infrastructure

THE European Union and the Technical Vocational Educational Training Division of the Education Department performed a ground-breaking ceremony to mark a new school infrastructure in Eastern Highlands.
European Union first counsellor head of political and information section Rudie Filon, Eastern Highlands education adviser Thomas Jonduo and provincial administrator Samson Akunai officiated at the ceremony just outside Goroka town.
Filon said EU under its support of PNG’s human resource development fund for infrastructure development and the Education Department were implementing it.
He said Kamaliki Vocational Training Centre was the only centre in the Highlands, the rest are coastal vocational schools.
These are Kabaira Vocational Training Centre in ENB, Raval Vocational Training Centre in ENB, Yawasoro Vocational Training Centre in East Sepik, Bulolo Vocational Training Centre in Morobe, and Umi Vocational Training Centre in Morobe.
Jonduo thanked EU for spending a lot of money to build the infrastructures.
He said school building built in the colonial days were left to deteriorate and with the interception of EU, will see more new infrastructures development coming up.
Akunai thanked EU for the support and assured that the new infrastructures would be taken care of by the school.
The ground-breaking ceremony at the Kamaliki school ground turned into a mini-show with four singsing groups, two brass band groups and a snakeman performing.
