European medical team arrives to help fight Covid-19

A SEVEN-member emergency medical team from Johanniter International Assistance in Europe arrived in Port Moresby yesterday to support the country’s response to the Covid-19.
It is the four overseas team to arrive recently to help as the number of Covid-19 cases started to increase alarmingly. The team from Johanniter consists of a doctor, four paramedics and two nurses.
St John Ambulance (SJA) chief executive officer Matt Cannon said the team would be integrating and working as part of the Port Moresby General Hospital nightingale Covid-19 wing at the Taurama Aquatic Centre and in support of St John’s work there.
“The team will join the St John team and work within the Port Moresby General Hospital structure and support the work being done at the nightingale,” he said.
“The physician, nurses and paramedics on this team are seasoned professionals, experienced in critical care and operating within a multi-disciplinary medical team.
“Together with the medical team of St John Ambulance, they will provide medical care for the Covid-19 patients with mild to moderate symptoms over the next four weeks.
