THE Don Bosco Technical Institute in Port Moresby hosted a refrigeration technical skills challenge on Saturday to mark the World Environment Day.
Secretary of the PNG Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Association Alan Swan said the challenge was to get the industry together and promote clean air.
He said the weekend’s event was an installing competition.
“We have Brian Bell, South Pacific Air Condition, PNG Cool Air and the Don Bosco Training Institute taking part in this one day competition,” he said.
“The first prize is K1,000 and second prize is K800.”
Swan said the association was working with the Centre for Environment Policy and Advocacy (Cepa).
“The industry at the moment is not registered and we don’t know how many refrigeration and air conditioning engineers there are in the country,” he said.
“The government has come through Cepa and asked us to put up the registrations for the industry and we are working on signing a memorandum of understanding, so that we can than collect fees and give out licence and start to get the industry established.”
