MORE than 8,000 people gathered at the St Mathews Catholic Parish at Vunamarita, Gazelle, last week for the feast day of Catholic mothers and youths.
Gazelle MP Jelta Wong, who attended the event, was impressed with the success of the two-week programme bringing in women and youths from all over East New Britain.
Wong acknowledged the organising committee and the community and presented K10,000 to them.
He said the turn out indicated the people’s desire to change their lives and bring changes to their communities.
He said the district continued to enjoy a good working partnership between the churches and government through the church partnership programme (CPP) and the public private partnership (PPP) policy of the Government.
Wong also assured the people that the road conditions in the Lassul-Baining LLG would be improved.
He said his team would focus on addressing issues faced by women by promoting SMEs and he encouraged women in the Gazelle to attend any meetings that were convened.
