Leading Edge managing director Lee Pokarop has commended Port Moresby residents for turning up in numbers to watch the opening round of the Digicel Cup.
The company has been contracted as the event manager of Digicel Cup fixtures at Sir John Guise Stadium.
Pokarop said there were no serious incidents during the double-headers on Saturday and Sunday.
“It was a decent crowd,” he said.
“Compliance was solid and, as usual, a passionate crowd attended on both days.
“Any minor adjustment that we needed to make had been effected as early as Sunday.
“The ticket sales were managed reasonably well, the crowd were very cooperative.
“It ended on a solid note and we continue to ask for the crowd’s compliance in terms of social distancing.
“Remember, each person is supposed to sit two seats apart.
“That’s just the way it has to be and we’ll do our best to work with everyone coming in.
“We finished very strong with minimal incidents and the only way is up.”
Meanwhile, Papua New Guinea National Rugby League Competition manager Stanley Hondina also thanked the fans for a successful start to the season in Lae and Port Moresby.
“It’s always challenging to get the ball rolling but we can only improve week by week and we will continue to get better,” he said.
