Evergreen project still on

 ON Feb 10, we reported that the Department of Agriculture had cancelled a licence given to Evergreen Ltd to develop an oil palm project in East New Britain.

The report was based on a letter supposedly issued by the department’s Deputy Secretary.

We are now informed that there has been no cancellation, and the department supports Evergreen’s Matawat Agro-Forestry Project in Kimbe.

Department Secretary Dr Vele Pat Ila’va said the statement was released without his knowledge and authorisation, and did not represent their position.

The National apologises to Evergreen for the misleading report and for any inconvenience caused.
