Ex-employer pleads guilty to stealing

A FORMER employee of Food Mart supermarket at 7th Street has pleaded guilty at the National Court in Lae to stealing more than K40,000 worth of phone cards and cell phones from the supermarket last year.
Ken Weg, in his 20s, from Mawaeng village, Amele, Madang province, had stolen the goods after hiding in the shop when it closed for the day.
He appeared before Justice Sao Gabi yesterday.
The court was told that last Dec 19, at around 7pm while the shop was closing, Weg went to the back of cashier’s till and hid.
When the shop closed, he came out and stole Flex and Prepaid cards, a Motorola and a Nokia cell phone, valued at K40,782.30, the court was told
When the shop opened the next day, Weg  escaped, but was apprehended later.
Weg’s lawyer Anna Raymond from public solicitor’s office asked for pre-sentence reports and will make submissions on Sept 18.
