THE Waigani National Court yesterday sentenced former Kumul player, Stanley Haru to eight years in prison on fraud-related charges.

Haru was found guilty on charges of false pretence and misappropriation in relation to the sale of the Kone Tigers Oval in 2007.

Deputy Chief Justice Gibbs Salika said Haru did not have the authority to sell the Kone Tigers land for K2.6 million.

He ordered that Haru should serve only four years in prison on the condition he repaid the K2.6 million.

Failure to do that would see him serve the full term of eight years.

Salika said other people managing Haru’s affairs could arrange to make restitution while Haru was in prison.

Salika told Haru that the Kone Tigers rugby league club made him a champion player.  “You did not return the good favour by dismantling the club,” Salika said.

The court ruled that the ownership of the land was still under the title of the Kone Tigers rugby league incorporation.
